Teaching about "poopy diaper"

This morning, I smelled that DJ had a poopy diaper.

"DJ, do you have a poopy diaper?" I asked.

"NO!" he declared.  Then two seconds later, "Yah!"

I had read a technique on babycenter that may help with teaching potty training, so I decided to try it today.  I took DJ to his room, changed his diaper and instead of just throwing out the dirty one, I took it and DJ into the bathroom.

"DJ, come here and let me show you something."  I told him that when he makes a poopy diaper, this is what you make (I opened the dirty diaper so he could see the bowl movement in it).  He studied it intently.  Then I told him that if he were to go poopy on the potty, the poopy would go IN the potty instead of in the diaper.  That's when I emptied the contents of the poopy diaper into the toilet and flused it down.  I definitely had his attention.

When we went back into the living room, DJ ran right to Daddy and told him all about what had just happened.  Hopefully, that'll stew in his head over the next few weeks/months!
