DJ celebrated his first Thanksgiving yesterday. He was awake at the crack-of-dawn (6:30am), though Mommy chose to let him play in his crib for another half an hour before she got out of bed to go get him. He's such a good boy!
The day was pretty normal until it was time to leave for the Hopkins Club.
Mommy had planned on a particular outfit, but didn't figure that the outfit would be too small. Scrap Plan A.
Time for Plan B. Tag teamed by Mommy and Daddy in an attempt to get DJ dressed quickly, a MUCH larger outfit was tested. Emphasis here is on MUCH larger.
Plan C. Put together a cute little sweater and sweatpants outfit for him and a pair of socks. By that time, The Wiggle Worm was in full wiggle mode and it was truly a WWE match on the changing table to get him dressed. Even with Daddy distracting him, dressing the equivalent of a fish is much harder than one would think!
Finally dressed, Daddy picked him up, turned him facing outwards so I could put his bibs (yes, more than one bib is necessary for The Drool Monster) and wham-o. He spit up all over Daddy's shoe. Good thing he was facing outwards else Daddy would have been putting on a whole new wardrobe, too!
DJ was a perfect angel at the Hopkins Club. He was willing to hang out in the high chair for well over an hour, chewing on his toys and promptly dropping them to the floor. Mommy and Daddy are wise to the drop-it-and-have-someone-pick-it-up-for-me game, but we indulge him in it anyway. He charmed everyone there, even perfect strangers!
I intended to give him a little piece of turkey to try but by the time I remembered, George had already inhaled his plate's worth. Oh well. He had homemade pumpkin puree (with a little cinnamon and nutmeg in it!) and finely chopped green beans instead. He wowed everyone when he would continually open up for the next spoonful and get mad when he didn't get it fast enough. Shovel faster, Mommy!!
I can say that we - Steve and I - are incredibly thankful for this beautiful boy we have. He's happy, healthy, and thriving. We love every day with him and can't imagine life without him now.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone.
