Labor Day weekend 2011

This year, Labor Day weekend was not exactly relaxing... The Baltimore Grand Prix (BGP) was having its inaugural race, and Steve and I were going to be heavily involved! The "how, what and why" of that is a whole other blog post, but the bottom line is that we would be gone from 4AM until 9PM during the entirety of the BGP (Friday - Sunday).  This type of babysitting time frame, I decided, would be way too much for any set of grandparents to handle, so I asked my most awesomest sister if she (and her family) would be willing to watch the kids for us for those 3 days. With how much DJ and Elektra love love love Spiro and Sophia (the feeling is quite mutual!), I figured the kids would barely miss us (true statement, apparently!).

Steve drove them to Lancaster the Thursday before the race, installed our car seats in the minivan, and setup the pack-n-play. The kids were so engrossed in playing with Spiro's toys, they barely said bye to him when he left!

Apparently, they really did have a ball.  On Friday morning, after Sophia and Spiro went to school, my sister took DJ and Elektra to her gym.  Her gym has a fully supervised play area for kids so that their parents can go work out for up to 2 hours.  Sidenote:  I took the kids back up to Lancaster the Tuesday after Labor Day and I saw this place for myself... it ROCKS.  I'd love to have this, especially if I were a stay-at-home mom.

Apparently, they had so much fun that both kids napped on Friday!  Hooray for lots of exercise!

Saturday and Sunday were spent playing with their favorite cousins.  There must've been a small mishap because at DJ and Elektra needed to use an ice pack.

Included in playtime was dress up time!  Elektra became a BEAUTIFUL princess, thanks to her cousin and godmother, Sophia.  She loved this dress so much that she wanted to wear it again when I went up there a few days later!!

Princess Elektra couldn't be more pleased!!
Meanwhile, DJ and cousin Spiro were having a good time of their own!

The Sunday before Labor Day, after the BGP ended, we met the Schramms, our kids, and my parents for dinner at one of our favorite locales, The Charred Rib.  The report was that our kids were little angels, and they were as happy to see us as we were to see them!

HUGE THANKS to the Schramms for watching the kids that weekend!  Steve and I had the best time EVER at the BGP, and we couldn't have done it without you.
