Today, DJ's PreSchool took his class to Roha Farms in Hydes, MD. Hydes is 10 minutes from the house, so that was incredibly convenient for us! Jeff and Grace met us at the house, and they followed us to the farm.
They had a few different learning stations where the owners of the farm talked about things:
- Hay vs. Straw (hay is fed to animals, straw is used for bedding as all of its nutrients are gone)
- Apple Cidar vs. Apple Juice (cidar is made with the whole apple - skin, core, everything)
- Animals - cows, chickens/roosters, peabirds (e.g. peacocks, peahens, and peachicks), sheep and goats
- Honey Bees
- Pumpkins
Then we took a *straw* ride to the pumpkin patch where each child got to pick a pumpkin and bring it back.
Grace and DJ's class was paired with the Kindergarteners. Jeff and I were highly amused by the mass amounts of energy and enthusiasm the older kids had as compared to our two!
Regardless, the kids seemed to have a good time. DJ was such a good listener that he had a visible halo over his head!! Here are some pictures!
