On Monday night, DJ was babbling in the high chair while I was on the phone and Steve was cooking dinner. I'm paying enough attention to keep feeding DJ but not much else other than my phone conversation. Next thing I know, Steve is jumping up and down saying, "DID HEAR THAT?! He said "DA DA!" And sure enough, he repeated it. So da da da da da is a new syllable for him, though he doesn't know that it can be associated with Daddy yet. Nonetheless, that's pretty cool stuff!
Yesterday evening, DJ was standing with Steve's help facing me (who was sitting on the floor a foot or so away). DJ let go of Steve's fingers and took two steps towards me and then lunged himself into my arms! After lots of "Good jobs!", hugs, and kisses, I turned him around and sent him back to Steve. He took two steps again and launched himself at Steve. That's awesome!
DJ will let go of and even push away your hands, fingers, etc. so that he can stand by himself. In fact, he lets go of the things he's holding on to for balance more and more frequently and without any prompting from us. So it's just a matter of time before he'll be walking... !!
